I’ll keep this short and sweet!
Over the years my DIY aroid mix recipes can be summed up into 3. Here they are listed with all the ingredients I use + a bonus 2 ingredient AND my go-to ready to use brand.
for quick reference, all ingredients can be found here.
current DIY aroid mix recipe
I use this for 90% of my plants that are potted in “soil” (this is a soil-less mix)
- 1 part pumice
- 1 part orchid bark
- 1 part vermeculite
- 1/4 part tree fern (you may sub for coco coir)
- 1/4 part coco coir chips
- 1/2 part horticultural charcoal
- 1/2 part chunky perlite
- optional- sprinkle worm castings
5 ingredient DIY aroid mix recipe
this is still a solid mix for most houseplants like monstera deliciosa, peace lily, ZZ, sansevieria, pathos, etc. I don’t have exact measurements with this as I adjust the chunky ingredients depending on what plant it’s being used for.
3 ingredient DIY aroid mix recipe
great mix for most common houseplants.
- 1 part coco coir or quality potting mix
- 2 parts chunky perlite
- 2 parts orchid bark
BONUS
2 ingredient DIY aroid mix
this is a newer mix to me, but so far I have monstera aurea, albo and begonia snow cap variegated in this and they love it.
- 1 part tree fern
- 1 part chunky perlite
my favorite ready to use aroid mix
my go to ready to use is and has always been Sol Soils. Their chunky houseplant mix is great for most plants. They have quality, premium ingredients that are moisture retentive AND very aery and chunky. You can use code CLAUDIA10 for discount.
